| I am indebted to reader and former British Telecomm employee Chris Hebbron who emailed this rare picture of Leyland National TAE 638 S in Gloucester Park in 1978. Although not one of the 25 or so PSVs which, by agreement with the City Council, carried the Gloucester Coat of Arms the virtually brand new NBC owned single decker would still have turned heads in its wrap around Buzby markings. After all, nobody would have been listening to music downloaded on their iPod, surfing the net on their Blackberry or even texting on their mobile phone! | ||

| BT's sponsorship of Leyland powered public transport continued into the 1980s, by which time the telecommunications giant was nearer privatisation than the Buzby era. Photographed at Bristol Temple Meads in 1986, the artwork on Plymouth Laira based three car DMU set P460 included such icons as North London's Telecomm Tower and the satellite receiving station at Goonhilly Downs. With "making fast connections" emblazoned on its side, Class 118 Driving Motor Brake Second 51302 was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 1960. Powered by two horizontal BUT 6 cylinder 150 bhp engines, the 36 ton vehicle boasted 65 seats. | ||
