THE TRIDENT LIFE OF STAGECOACH CHELTENHAM

The first fully branded Dennis Trident double deckers entered service in the academic year 2002/2003 for the University of Gloucestershire, using buses that had briefly operated on special services for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. In 2006 an opportunity was taken to revise the livery applied to these buses used on service U, to that depicted on this model of 17728 - registration MK 02 EGX - a bus operated by the Cheltenham depot of Stagecoach West.

Following a request for 4mm scale models of contemporary local buses as part of a 2009 window display promoting the use of public transport at Gloucester Tourist Information Centre, staff at Stagecoach West were kind enough to loan some remarkable die cast representations of ALX 400-bodied Dennis Tridents produced by Creative Master Northcord Ltd of Hong Kong ( www.cmn.com.hk )

Operated by a small, dedicated team of drivers from Stagecoach Cheltenham, the Unimotion service is run in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire. Three Tridents, each displaying their own unique livery - carry more than 250 000 students, staff and public per anum between Cheltenham and two Gloucester campuses to both town centres and rail stations. All three vehicles - including 17729 registered as MK 02 EGY - were originally bought by Stagecoach in the summer of 2002 to form part of the Commonwealth Games shuttle bus fleet in Manchester. When the games ended, they were transferred to Cheltenham and repainted to launch the UNIMOTION service.
