| This C.W. Routh picture dated 17 February 1962 shows a Bristol FSF - the shorter 27' bodied cousin of the FLF. With 702 JHY on the licence plate and a Gloucester fleet identity of GL 6005, it is at Matson terminus with the then Number 6 service to Oxstalls Drive. Particularly evocative is the advertisement for Fletchers Sports and Games. This shop was located next to the Post Office on the Oxbode side of Kings Square and survived into the 1970s. It was unusual not only in having an "island" glass display case in the middle of its entrance but also for its wide range of products - shotguns and ( I remember hearing ) chemicals for home experimentation downstairs and model trains and Airfix kits upstairs! | ||

| Also on the Number 6 service to Matson is K6A HHY 590, fleet number 3788. Pictured in Kings Square, this 1945 vintage chassis had been delivered with a utility body as L3646 but in July 1955 received this body from G-type no 3048 that had received the body new in 1949. These bodies didn't fit properly on a K chassis as the engine was mounted higher. This resulted in the whole body sloping backwards. These bodies also had horizontal bottoms to the windscreen whereas bodies on K-types normally sloped This vehicle was based at Gloucester until May 1962 when it moved to Bristol until withdrawal in March 1965 | ||

| The different windscreen shape can be seen on this 1948 vintage K6A registered as LAE 28 and numbered within the Bristol County Fleet as 3721. Its Chassis number was 66040 and is seen here with a Gloucester and Cheltenham service before withdrawal in May 1961. | ||

| The K6B variant is illustrated by LHY 943 ( fleet number 3779) fitted - like many Gloucester buses of the time with an Eastern Counties body. The Lowestoft coachbuilders gave this one the number 3845 shortly before introduction in 1950. It was transferred to various Bristol garages in 1962 before withdrawal in April 1966. Here it is seen in Kings Square on the 49 Cheltenham, Longlevens and Hare & Hounds service - a route that now goes right through to Cheltenham as the Number 94. Incidentally, part of E. Fletchers emporium - as advertised on 702 JHY above - can be seen in the background. | ||
