Mark Hughes Models: New for 2015

It is with great pride that I welcome Mark Hughes Models to the WordPress version of Gloucestershire Transport History. More specifically, Mark Hughes produces a range of 4mm : 1 foot (1:76 or OO) scale bus, coach and tram kits plus fittings and accessories, including structure kits. There are a few items for lorry modellers and a small number of 7mm : 1 foot (1:43 or 0) scale tram and bus items, plus one or two items in 6mm : 1 foot scale (virtually 1:50).

Products in the Mark Hughes Models range are intended for adult modellers as many items have sharp edges and/or very small parts and are therefore not suitable for children.

The current catalogue can also be viewed at and downloaded from http://www.modelbuszone.co.uk/tmb/kits/mark_hughes.htm.

Please note that an old version of The Model Bus Website, last updated 18th March 2011, with catalogue dated 2009/10, still appears on the internet and should be disregarded.

NEWS FOR SEPTEMBER 2015

A new edition of the catalogue is now available which includes current availability of the Leyland/Volvo Olympian / Alexander RL kit variants.  These now include all three variants of the long (10.3m) version.

Unfortunately, the 3-axle Megadekka, Homalloy bonnet and Supreme IV are all taking longer than expected to prepare.

Recently introduced for the Lledo Bristol LD model is an etching for the standard grille, together with a white metal centre pillar for the rear platform window.  See page 28 in the new catalogue.

The catalogue can now be e-mailed as a .pdf file to enquirers in response to requests to hmark.hughes@gmail.com.  It is normally 12MB but a reduced-quality 5MB version is available if preferred.

At long last progress is being made with the Leyland Olympian/Alexander RL kit in resin format. Photos show the short (9.5m) body shell and interior masters and a couple of versions (P21c and e) are now available, with other variations and the long (10m) variety to follow. White metal castings are being provided for the umpteen variations of front and rear panels. Seats are being supplied as individual white metal castings (bus as standard, coach on request) with the option of etched bus seats with plastic strip or cast metal cushions, but it is hoped to cater for standard layouts later by producing racks of 6 or so double seats as resin castings.

In a real throwback to the past, the Megadekka 3-axle Olympian/RL project, which consists of etched brass sides with other items in white metal, is being revived.  Etchings have been in stock for years but problems with the castings led to the project falling by the wayside.

Work is also proceeding on the Supreme IV Express (11m) master and the Homalloy bonnet and body modifications for Edinburgh Leyland PD3 998 (PWS998) to adapt the Marsden kit.

A few more nickel silver etches are now available. Badges are BMMO, Guy Arab UF, Atkinson (small for buses, large for lorries) and Mercedes (small for MCV Evolution, large for Citaro), all 80p each. Also the “wings” motif for Duple Elizabethans (£1.20 each) and Volvo/Scania drilled wheel nut rings (£1.20 a pair).A few more nickel silver etches are now available.  Badges are BMMO, Guy Arab UF, Atkinson (small for buses, large for lorries) and Mercedes (small for MCV Evolution, large for Citaro), all 80p each.  Also the “wings” motif for Duple Elizabethans (£1.20 each) and Volvo/Scania drilled wheel nut rings (£1.20 a pair).

A very few of the following are available, partly to gauge demand:- Duple “Bella” series trims, plain for Willowbrook buses/DPs, and with lettering for Bella Vega and Bella Vista so far (£3.50 plus 93p postage), Saro Tiger Cub, etc, skirt trims (£2.50), AEC Regent III grille (white metal casting £1.50), Liverpool Corporation Leyland PD2 grille (brass, £1.50), body trims for Sunrise Alexander 1955 single-decker (Alexander Northern and later Midland versions, £5 plus 93p p&p, shown together in scan).

A standard-rate sae (or 62p) will cover postage on these items except where shown as 93p.  Note that Royal Mail charges increased on 31st March 2014 and no doubt will do so again around the same date in 2015.
